I have been dying to receive some local-based music to critic. My prayers were answered when I received an email last week labelled ‘Jinus’ The Beginning EP promo album. Enjoy.’ I was told this EP was a throwback of the Trance I once listened to, with a mix of that Big Room House stuff.

I haven’t listened to Trance in such a long time. This brought back so much love for the genre, and possibly brought hope. Since we live in an age where any type of dance music we used to love exclusively among a small community, is now making its way through to the commercial sphere, I would not be surprised if this sound and these guys get that extra bit of exposure. It’s well deserved.

Aaron and Matt, otherwise known as Jinus, have only known each other for a small time. I got to speak to Aaron who told me, ‘after 12 months of hard work, trying to develop our own sound, here it is.’ There are no signs of a fresh partnership here. It’s like they’ve been at it for years, combining their sound tastefully and eloquently. I guess you could say we can hear signs of two different professionals with a very similar passion.

All three tracks use similar and typical Trance synths that give the same goose-bump vibe only Trance can supply, but all three tracks are monsters in their own right. 6 Million Ways To Die, Nitrous, and War Machine (which also features fellow Melbourne-based producer, Andru’ Ballota) are all 6-7 minute long beauties. They each stand alone, but power, intelligence and emotion bleeds through each of them. They demand the respect they deserve. This music is so exhilarating, I feel like I need to jump into a car, and drive really fast down a long open road with nobody around; just me with no thoughts, the sounds from my speakers and tunnel vision.

This type of music is the music of angels, and you best believe this EP holds all things holy. Aaron told me, ‘we feel The Beginning Ep is the birth of a new sound.’ If Trance music doesn’t make you feel something, doesn’t make you escape, or doesn’t make your soul and mind open, it’s not good Trance music. The Beginning EP does all of the above and we will be arguing for a while if you say it doesn’t. But the thing is, it’s not completely ‘tranced-out’. It is unique.

This is a great beginning (pardon the pun) for the Jinus boys. They will be making a lot of noise and impact if they can continue to develop this fresh and special sound.

Jinus’ The Beginning EP is definitely worth 5 out of 5. I could not fault anything. You can tell these guys are perfectionists.
