This movie is perfect, and let me tell you why. It’s because this depicts what’s wrong with the people who roam this planet. The only “woke” people on Earth, are our scientists and the people who listen to them. However, Earth is actually infested with conspiracy theorists masked as bright individuals who truthfully, do not have a single fucking clue. I’m mad because despite this being a satire, this really hit the nail on the head, and I’m glad this movie exists. But, the world is just not smart enough to get its message.

Don’t Look Up moved me. Sure it was meant to be something that was meant to poke fun, but that shit made tears stream down my face at the end, because reality is, this whole scenario of a planet killing comet hurdling towards us and no one in high places really giving a damn, and the probability of making money over avoiding such a disastrous thing being more important, that reality, is increasingly likely. That, and the fact that there are people out there with no life, no degree, no hope that will push an agenda that is potentially harmful to the impressionable.

The film centres around astronomer, Dr. Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) and rookie astronomer Kate (Jennifer Lawrence). Kate specifically discovers the comet during her routine check of the sky. They take it to president Orlean (Meryl Streep) and are basically told, to “sit tight”. Trying hard to get the news out there, that “we’re all going to die”, they take the matter to the media, whom with TV personalities such as Teddy Oglethorpe (Tyler perry) and Brie Evantee (cate Blanchett) conducting the interview, they just continue to not be taken seriously. Their efforts to warn the world of the pending end of the world, are repeatedly ignored.

We all know Leo is very big on conservation for our planet, and has had a significant impact on getting the message of the impact of climate change out there, and that’s why, he is the best person to have in the forefront of a movie such as this.

With actors such as Jonah Hill as the president’s Chief of Staff also starring, you should laugh, you’re supposed to roll your eyes, but what you shouldn’t do, is look away from the uncomfortable truth this film is trying to covey.

Lastly, a message from me. Can we stop allowing idiots to lead us, and just give the reigns to scientists? And not the crazy, let’s make a monster, or try to bring back the dinosaur’s kind. I mean the ones that crunch the numbers and look for every variable. Wouldn’t that be a better solution for our planet?

I know I should have said more about the movie itself, and overall, I did enjoy it. But the message and the tears that streamed down my face because of it, were much more profound that the analysis a film generally requires for a critique.

Wake up world! If you need a kick in the butt, then watch Netflix’s Don’t Look Up.
