Let’s begin with the positives…

Eternals greatest achievement is the diversity. The inclusion of all sorts of life and kind is wonderful to watch. It’s next big achievement would be how visually appealing it is. From the armour, these heroes wear and how it is wrapped onto them, to the extra celestial being that appears, it’s all stunning to look at. And though full of humour, this film gives off a darker vibe, compared to some of the others. But that’s all the positive feedback I have, not mentioning the confusion around whether I actually liked it.

Eternals takes us through a million-year journey of the said heroes. Their purpose; to only kill Deviants and to never interfere with human conflict. The humans are to evolve in their natural way, and the Eternals will do the out of space stuff. With the death of their leader Ajak (Salma Hayek), Sersi (Gemma Chan) is chosen to lead the group. They discover the true purpose of their existence, and the existence of the Deviants, and are forced to take action to save humanity.

Firstly, I’m glad the Angelina Jolie factor was tamed. Truth is, I’m not a fan, and I was worried this whole movie was going to be based around her character, Thena, despite none of this being about her. Jolie always managers to make matters about her. But it didn’t happen. She was in it enough and played a good enough character to implement only a fraction of the film. Basically, she wasn’t annoying.

I think I’m confused around whether I liked it because I found myself cringing a few times. I believe it may have been the dialogue mostly that made me tick. Quotes like “remember who you are” and “the truth will set them free” made the writing seem lazy. I got too distracted by that.

The truth of the matter is; I didn’t really feel anything for this movie. Whether it was good or bad is probably a question I can answer if I watch it again. For the moment, the only reason Eternals was worth watching, is for the sake of the Marvel Universe.

P.S. Wasn’t Thanos part Deviant?
