I am one episode in of The Crown and I must admit. I found myself on my phone googling for a lot of it. I was more fascinated by familiarising myself with what exactly was accurate about the events that occurred in this first episode. Though it’s a story so familiar, it’s also a story we in fact, know nothing about. I hear the Queen herself is well aware that many believe this is an accurate depiction of her life and family, and so, I have a feeling for a lot of this show, I will be googling most of the way through. But then again, there is only so much Google can tell you.

As we all know now, The Crown is a show that follows the British royal family, starting from the marriage of Princess Elizabeth (Claire Foy) to Philip (Matt Smith). It’s also around the same time that Winston Churchill (John Lithgow) is Prime Minister for a second term. Furthermore, and to round up episode one, it includes the story of the illness inflicted on the Queen’s father, King George VI (Jared Harris). So, it’s a little slow. Nothing very shocking. Nothing that really pulls you in if this was a story that was original, and wasn’t based on true events and people. I think the only reason it’s so popular is because audiences have always been fascinated by the royals, and want to know what they’re all about.I believe The Crown is a show that needs your time and patience, and the need to know what really happen is what, at least for me, will keep me watching. I don’t see myself rushing to watch it. But then again, the potential element I see here is that I will be watching it as though I know nothing of these events, and hearing about them for the first time. I expect to want answers as the show progresses, making each episode more captivating than the last.
