I’m one episode in Only Murders in The Building and, slow and steady wins the race, maybe?

Only Murders in The Building is a Disney+, half an hour episode show, that seemed to be as talked about as Squid Game at the time. From what we get in episode one, it is about three randoms who live in the same building, all with their own little backstory, all true crime podcast lovers, all keen to solve the mystery of the death of yet another random who lives in the building. Unfortunately, for me, in just the first episode, the cons overweigh the pros. However, that’s not to say there aren’t any pros at all. They’re just not as front and centre as the cons.

I noticed that there was too much getting to know the characters for a first episode. The information and insight look into their backstories, though I’m sure still and only a small part of their lives we must get to know, should have come in small patches through the entire season, and not so much at once in a tiny 35-minute episode. Maybe it would make the show longer, but at least it’ll be paced better.

Then, it got weird for a minute with the whole trampoline floor. I guess, it was meant to resemble a metaphor of sorts. However, I didn’t really understand the reference or whatever the hidden message was from that. It’s so weird, that I don’t really know how to explain it to those who have never watched it. I probably could have left this out of this review, but I need to emphasis how crazy stupid some of the stuff that has been included, truly is.

And then, I had to try my hardest to look passed Selena Gomez’s blank face, and talking without moving her bottom jaw. Did you notice? I don’t know if it’s because I never watched her in anything else, but heck, that girl is irritating to watch, and as boring as her live show. As for those two comedy legends, Steve Martin and Martin Short, they both play their typical style of character, and I can’t help but mention how unfunny they both were in this first episode.

But then, right there, at that very last moment, your jaw drops a little and you second guess any doubt you may have had about the show. But seriously, did it have to drag like that? I want to feel like I want to solve this crime, too. That’s the emotion I want to overcome me, and I really hope that’s what will happen. I also want to laugh. With legends like Steve Martin and Martin Short, this should be hilarious. I hope the real comedy isn’t too far away.

Alright. Second episode immediately.
